Invigorate Your Heart to Heal Your Mind

The other day, I taught several back bends in class, as it's the season for the heart, according to Chinese medicine, so back bends seemed appropriate.

A new woman who walked in, hunched over, shared that she wasn't feeling well and wasn't sure she should even do the class, as her energy was low. I encouraged her to just do what she could and to rest when she needed to.

After class, she was beaming, saying she felt amazing. She knew this practice was good for her health, especially her heart, as she was suffering from loneliness after moving to the area and not knowing anyone. When the other students overheard her share that, they immediately introduced themselves and started chatting.

I don't think any of that would have happened before the class. The heart openers worked! It helped connect these students to each other. They started sharing their yoga journeys with each other and how they feel better now than they did 20 years ago!

The early summer fire season is when our heart chi is front and center. When the heart chi is balanced, we feel an inner peace that ripples out to those around us. Our energy speaks louder than our words!

And on the flip side, when the heart energy is imbalanced, we suffer from anxiety, stress, loneliness, and depression. These emotions carried a heavy weight, which this new woman walked in with.

The heart's electromagnetic field expands up to 30 ft. around us, way more than the brain's. We are a walking broadcasting energy field. So it's important to tend to our energy through our daily disciplines and habits, which, in turn, will tend to our relationships, which ultimately determine the quality of our lives.

Happy summer, the season for a happy heart!

Hope to breathe with you soon.

From my heart to yours~

Namaste,

Maggie
