Tend To Your Heart And Find PEACE
In this high time of year, when the sun is at its peak and the days are bright and long, we connect to our innate sense of joy.
Joy and peace are the virtues of balanced heart chi. The practices that stimulate the meridians of the heart and small intestine, the organ pair that are running the strongest in the early summer, will create an ample energy flow. Breathwork and specific physical practices will shift us out of anxiety and into a calm peaceful heart that expresses joy.
The early summer energy corresponds to the fire element, which is the flowering season – the most yang-rising energy. In the spring, the energy was rising from the seed into a sprout. In the early summer, the sprout is blooming into a flower – the most beautiful expression. This is the season of joy and peace when in balance because we are in the blooming time of year.
Organs in energetic high tide during the Fire season:
~yin organ: heart
~yang organ: small intestine
Emotions when out of balance:
~anxiety, manic behavior, shock, disconnection, hatred
Virtues of balanced heart chi:
~peaceful, joyful, compassionate, interconnected to all of life
Energetically the heart is known as the Emperor that governs our entire kingdom. When the heart’s chi is strong and balanced, we feel peaceful and joyful.
We can easily connect to others and are compassionate, warm, accepting, and gentle and are able to maintain healthy relationships.
When out of balance, it shows up as anxiety or loneliness, disconnection, sadness, distance, cold demeanor, and/ or depression.
Physically and energetically the small intestine is responsible for clear discernment on what to keep and what to let go of. When the small intestine’s energy is imbalanced, we suffer from a lack of clarity.
The HEART MUDRA Qigong set
Inhale hands lift to make a diamond
Exhale the diamond into your heart
Inhale dig deep into the mud
Exhale as the lotus blossoms from your heart.
During this flowering time of year, if the heart and small intestine energy is weak, we will have a hard time manifesting what we want to grow.
This can be looked at when considering any project that we’re inspired to do. When it comes to the manifestation stage, there is some anxiety or insecurity we often feel before we can allow it to bloom.
So, we keep feeding wood to fire, moving our joints, which are the bodily tissue related to the wood element in the spring. This will stimulate our vascular system, the bodily tissue related to the fire element of the heart, so the blood circulates efficiently. Then we’ll have the courage to manifest.
When the heart energy is excessive and manic, or overly anxious, we need to go back to the controller of fire, which would be the water element.
Quiet yin forward bends are part of the water protocol and activate the kidney and bladder meridians. These will regulate our manic anxiety into a cool, calm mind that can think clearly and manifest with a peaceful, joyful heart.
During the early summer – known as the yang of yang time of year – the energy is at its peak, and we can feel excited and energetic. When the energy is excessive – this can happen easily when overheated, excited, or not properly nourished – anxiety and manic behavior can arise.
This time of year is especially important to balance it with the water element that relates to the kidneys in the winter, as they are energetically the most yin. These polarized seasons and energies create the yin yang balance of energy. Fire finds its balance with its controller and opposite, water.
Cool down anxiety with a forward bend:
INHALE up the kidney meridian
EXHALE down the bladder meridian
From my heart to yours
Namaste,
Maggie
